I’m starting to hear back from students that they are receiving intern offers.  If you are an international student and plan to participate in our CPT program for an internship, please start the process as early as possible.

Here’s the link for information on the program including the dates when applications are accepted depending upon the semester you want to work.  Note that the process for approval on campus involves multiple campus offices and typically takes 2-3 weeks.

Instructions for how to apply for CPT are listed here.

Many other questions that you may have about the CPT program are answered on this page.

  • Summer CPT Q&A sessions will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesdays in March and April. You can join these sessions here.
This is a great opportunity to get your questions answered beyond the documentation available online!
  • CSC students can only work part-time for CPT during the fall & spring semesters.
International students at NC State are limited to a combined total of 20 hours of employment during the Spring and Fall terms, or any required term of enrollment (inclusive of on-campus and any CPT). Students may be eligible for employment beyond 20 hours per week during the academic year only if the CPT is justified because it is a standard requirement of the academic program [for all students in the degree program or track] or integral to the student’s thesis or dissertation. More details here.

From the DGP office: Full-time CPTs during the academic year (essentially involving a leave of absence from school) are unusual, and require the thesis advisor to certify that the employment is an “integral component” of the student’s thesis. Part-time CPTs during the school year are approved if (a) the student is enrolled in no more than 9 credits, and (b) the student’s GPA is at least 3.2. This ensures that academics are the first priority, ahead of employment. Further details here.

If you’re still internship hunting, we encourage you to connect with a career advisor through an appointment or attend one of our upcoming programs on job/intern search related topics.
